How it Compares:

Testing and Research

The eufy Security Spaceview monitor is one of sixteen highly rated travel friendly baby monitors that we purchased to test and compare. We tested each of them and ranked each on their battery quality, features, audio and video qualities, usability, and range to see which was the best baby monitor.

The eufy Spaceview had a perfect score in included features and excellent scores in sound quality and usability. Our biggest disappointed with the monitor was its range. It advertises 600 feet, which is on the lower end of the monitors we tested, and it showed. It had several glitching issues, which we’ll dive further into below.

Common Complaints

In our testing process, we read hundreds of critical reviews on the products to learn the common complaints for each monitor. We noted that we agreed with some of the complaints during our testing, but others we did not experience.

Customer ComplaintOur Experience
Poor Battery LifeThe battery life was better than some monitors we tested, but was definitely not the best
Hard to Set UpWe didn’t think it was hard to set up
FlimsyIt isn’t the sturdiest of the monitors we tested
Must Manually Switch from Day to Night VisionIt automatically switched between day and night for us
Camera Loses ConnectionWe only noticed this when the monitor was out of range

Features

The eufy Spaceview had a perfect score on our preferred list of features. It includes two-way audio, which is a very handy feature to soothe and communicate with your little one. A sleep mode can be set to darken the screen after one, three, or five minutes to conserve battery.

The monitor also includes a lullaby feature, offering five different lullaby options, making it easy and convenient to soothe baby to sleep, even while traveling. We do wish white noise was also an option to play over the monitor.

The eufy Spaceview lullaby options

The eufy was one of few cameras we tested that came with a separate wide angle lens. We love the addition of the wide angle lens for larger rooms or rooms that may have more than one crib.

The eufy Spaceview comes with one camera and can accommodate up to four. Though there isn’t a split screen option, you can set a timed cycle between the cameras in 5, 10, 15, or 30 second increments.

The eufy had pretty low EMF emissions compared to some of the other monitors we tested:

Though we don’t know of any specific guidelines related to EMF emissions, some research has been done on the topic.

The night vision mode for the eufy Spaceview can be customized to either come on automatically or stay off at all times.

The eufy Spaceview night vision options

The camera itself has pan/tilt/zoom capabilities, with a 110 to 330 degree field of view.

Usability

The eufy Spaceview was very easy to set up, taking us less than four minutes to get it unboxed and linked. It synced right away once both of the units were plugged in.

The navigation menu itself is pretty easy to use, with clear icons to indicate their purposes. We like that the various options give broad ranges of options. For example, the five lullaby options, and 1x, 1.5x, and 2x zoom options.

The camera can be set up on a flat surface or mounted to the wall with an included mounting kit. There were some critical reviews complaining the kickstand of the parent unit was flimsy. We didn’t think it was too flimsy, but it is a little smaller than that of some of the other monitors we tested.

You can put the parent unit into a manual sleep mode by pressing the power button on the exterior of the unit once. The volume controls are also accessible from the outside of the unit, which we like. Some monitors, like the Infant Optics DXR-8, only allow volume adjustments through the navigation menu, which is a little bit of a pain.

Range

Overall, we were most disappointed with the eufy Spaceview’s range capabilities.

The monitor advertises up to a 600 foot signal range, which itself is the lowest claimed range of all the monitors that we tested. However, even with the advertised range, the monitor still struggled.

A common complaint we noted in all of our monitor critical review research was that many parent units couldn’t be taken outside. If a parent wanted to sit outdoors or do some yardwork while baby was sleeping, they weren’t able to without the monitor disconnecting. We designed a test that put the baby unit in an upstairs bedroom while we took the parent unit outside on the main floor.

Unfortunately, the complaints rang true for the eufy. We had barely stepped outside the door when the parent unit began to cut out.

The monitor did a little better indoors, but it wasn’t perfect. We put the baby unit in an upstairs bedroom and took the parent unit to a nearby upstairs bedroom, a room a floor below, and to a basement. The monitor cut out a few times and acted like it was searching for the baby unit a lot.

Video

The eufy Spaceview had decent picture quality. It advertises 720P resolution, and we were overall pretty happy with the clarity of the screen. The coloring of the picture was also nice and clear without much distortion.

The eufy Spaceview in day mode

The range of brightness was good, with eight levels of brightness you can adjust to in order to find the perfect level, no matter the time of day.

Unfortunately, the night vision of the eufy was one of the poorest of all the monitors that we tested. The picture quality in night vision mode was very grainy and hard to make out details in the picture.

The screen display is five inches, which is a great size for being able to keep an eye on baby. The physical baby unit itself is decently thin, though, making it easy to travel.

There wasn’t too much of a delay with the sound and video. Some monitors, like the Owlet Cam Video Monitor, had a pretty significant delay.

We played the monitor’s lullabies and were pretty pleased that we could still hear baby noise very well through the parent unit. Sometimes this can be a bit of a challenge when music is played directly through the baby unit camera.

The monitor does include VOX (voice activated alert) mode with up to five adjustable thresholds. This is great to make sure you are only being alerted for noises you want to hear, but not necessarily small sounds like baby’s movement in bed.

We heard very little static noise through the monitor, and overall the two-way audio was very clear.

Battery Life

The battery life of the eufy Spaceview was okay. It was not the strongest of the monitors we tested, but we did not really experience any battery deterioration.

The battery life remained pretty consistent, only varying a matter of minutes in life among our three tests:

Test 18 hours, 2 minutes
Test 28 hours, 23 minutes
Test 38 hours, 11 minutes

Though there really wasn’t any battery deterioration, which was nice, we were pretty disappointed that the battery lasted only about eight hours.

Baby Monitor Security

The eufy Security Spaceview Baby Monitor is WiFi-free monitor, which we like for many reasons, especially the security aspects. A non-WiFi monitor tends to be more secure and, theoretically, more difficult to hack. It also made the monitor much easier to set up.

The eufy Spaceview also employs FHSS (frequency hopping spread spectrum), a system that switches the monitor’s frequency regularly to prevent interference or hacking.

Should You Purchase the eufy Security Spaceview?

The eufy Security Spaceview Baby Monitor was tied with the Kawa Video Monitor S6 for our second-highest scoring monitor, which did earn it a place on our recommended monitors list.

Overall, we really do like the eufy Spaceview. It’s a solid monitor with great features, is easy to use, and has great sound capabilities. We like that it doesn’t require WiFi, making it much easier to set up and more secure.

The monitor is not perfect, and there are a few things that we would change about it if we could. Largely, we wish that the range was more dependable. Though you may not need to take your monitor’s parent unit outside, it’s nice to have the option. This also may not be as effective a piece of gear for people in larger homes.

We also wish the battery life was a little bit better. Though it did last around eight hours and didn’t take as long as most to charge, we would have liked the battery to last longer, at least twelve hours.

Overall, the eufy Security Spaceview is a good monitor and a solid piece of baby gear. It’s a little on the pricier side, but not horribly expensive compared to some others that we have tested. It is a great option to add to a baby registry or consider for a baby shower gift, and has earned its spot as one of our top recommended monitors.
